I have been so excited to share this weeks blog post in the Be Wholehearted series with you! Get ready to meet the amazing owner of Winnie Cafe, the newest hip cafe to grace my hometown on the Sunshine Coast. Sara, who has her hands on a few foodie businesses, has been cooking for my projects since my first ever magazine shoot. She is talented, plates up the most delicious food, but also has got great style! Enjoy!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Sara Dillon and I like to feed people delicious food at my cafe Winnie, in Woombye.
When did you start doing your business- and what made you follow your dream?
I first started Little Boat (our other cafe) almost five years ago. I was supposed to go down to Melbourne RMIT to study fashion merchandising and do forecasting; but, instead a space perfect for a cafe came up, and an opportunity became available so I took it. I wanted to create a business that I would like to visit.
What do you love most about what you do and why?
Honestly the best thing about what I do is the gratitude I receive from customers when they eat our food… that totally satisfied food face is the best! I also love gathering produce from the garden and making something from what I have, it’s a pretty great feeling. There is some crazy amazing produce right on our door step.
What is a typical day for you? Run us through morning, middle and afternoons of your day!
Wow ok… It usually involves me trying to creep out of my bed without waking my two year old at 5am. Making my way to Winnie or Little Boat / cooking people food / making work calls / flicking through recipes. Followed by a school pick up / daycare pick up / pool or beach swims with my boys or maybe the gym. Then its onto ordering for the next day / organising both cafes/ answering catering emails and quoting for the ‘Tuck Shop’ which is our catering business. Making dinner / standard bed time routines which are never standard. If I’m lucky I get half an hour of me time… and then always a glass of red and sleep.
What has been your proudest career achievement to date?
Honestly this question, I have been pondering on this for the past few days. I have a few sneaky goals but i’m not there yet. A lady did walk into Winnie today and said to me, “Thankyou, thankyou for opening this space up in our little town!” It really doesn’t get more humbling than that.
What does being wholehearted mean to you?
Being kind and compassionate to everyone. You truly you never know what’s going on behind closed doors, and kindness is the biggest gift you can give to others.
