Born Collector

I was born to be a collector, it is well and truly in my genes! My parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were all big on collections. My great-grandmother had an amazing combination of miniature copper tea sets, which my mum still remembers as a little girl. My grandmother was an accumulator of trinkets of many kinds, and my grandfather was an avid collector of driftwood pieces and orchids.

My great grand-father was a shearer’s cook during the early 1900’s and one of his giant rolling pins was given to my mother, who since then has embarked on acquiring her own antique rolling pin selection. Mum also has the most wonderful menagerie of elephants, as well as a stunning collection of depression green glassware, and my Dad has the broadest assortment of vintage car memorabilia I have ever seen.

So really, as you can see I clearly had no choice in the matter. I was destined to be a collector!

However, unlike my generations before me, I have not really honed in on one choice of collection. My ever-expanding assortment of ‘things’ is slowly taking over my home one room at a time, which is a big deal for someone who is a self-professed neat freak! Like a bird feathering its nest, I love to create that eclectic look of all different items, vintage and new pieces, all seamlessly blended in together to create a fresh and unique style, knowing that I am designing something inimitable and distinctive.

So go through your neglected drawers, tool shed, garage, or board games cupboard and gather items that represent you and your loves and get them out on display. Select carefully both new and vintage items, and partner them with bright pops of colour and some pieces of the sentimental kind and you will have one exceptional display like this very cool one that I created using items of my own as well as some new [and old actually!] gorgeous pieces from Willow & Bird.
