This time last year I had the privilege of styling a fashion bridal shoot with One Day Bridal. As with any online shopping you always hope it will be as good as it looked in the photos.
But the day I got to feast my eyes on the One Day Bridal gowns for our shoot, I was blown away by the quality. They were AMAZING. And everything about this brand, its aesthetic, its imagery and values had me hooked.
Once a self funded start up, One Day Bridal has gone on from strength to strength, more recently releasing a collection internationally, all with Kyha Simpson and her team at the helm.
Who are you and what do you do?
Kyha Simpson and I am the Founder and Creative Director of One Day Bridal and CHOSEN by One Day.
Tell us about your brand, how you started and what made you follow your dream?
Getting married! As I went through the journey of finding my own wedding dress I really struggled finding something that was modern and unique. I finally ended up have a custom designed gown, however I found the process difficult and disappointing as my dress on the day was nothing like the original design. This experience left me thinking that no other bride should have to go through what I did. The gap in the bridal industry for modern and more fashion forward gowns was screaming at me. So I took a leap of faith and created what is now One Day Bridal. And now I get to work alongside so many talented creatives in the industry.
What is a typical day for you? Run us through your routine?
No two days are the same and everyday is busy. We are still quite a small team of about ten so there is always a lot for everyone to do. We are consistently meeting beautiful new brides, in fittings with our current brides and I am in the process of producing some new and exciting ventures and processes within the business. It’s busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What has been your proudest career achievement to date?
Launching our CHOSEN brand internationally!
What have you found hardest about being a business owner?
One Day Bridal has been all self funded. I started out by buying two rolls of fabric one Saturday without telling my husband and created my first ever wedding dress. That’s not to say that it hasn’t been hard because it has been and money is always a driving factor and stress in a small business.
What does being wholehearted mean to you?
Don’t hold back.
