Recently I discovered a beautiful mid-century sideboard. It had been so concealed up the back of the secondhand store I found it in, that other shoppers had not even known it was there. But fortunately for me, destiny had it that I saw the bottom right front leg. And that was all it took!
I swept the products it was covered in off the top and ten minutes later I had purchased and miraculously jammed it into the back of my small car.
Once I got it home I realised that this sideboard was going to be a lot of fun! Sideboards allow you adorn them with pieces you otherwise may have had no place for, while also becoming an anchor for anything hanging on the wall above it.
They can help pull a whole entire room together and when styled thoughtfully they can help create that ‘homely’ feeling we all want in our homes.
For me, making use of items new and old is the key to creating a home with heart. The idea of buying everything from out of the one catalogue seems to me like the easy road; but, to carefully select items from here and there, and mix it in with family heirlooms, unique vintage finds or even something handmade is what ultimately makes a home.
So I set out on a journey, one where I only used local products and finds… to create a sideboard style masterpiece!
